Northamptonshire’s first team made light of the dismal weather conditions to record a crushing 12-3 victory over Bedfordshire in their opening pre-season friendly at Luton Hoo GC.
Most of the damage was done in the morning foursomes as Northants recorded victories in all five ties – Jon Harris and Jamie Milligan (4&2) recording the most convincing win.
Any fears of an incredible home comeback were quickly ended as Michael Farr and Miles Mudge took the first two singles points, before Harris strolled in with a 7&5 victory under his belt.
With another friendly to follow against Warwickshire before the team is picked for the Anglian League opener against Leicestershire in May, the selectors will have been impressed with the form of Mark Phillips and Jordan Darnell, who won twice on the 18th hole.
