NPGA Overseas Pro-Am
Kettering professional Michael Campbell was successful in the four-day NPGA Winter Overseas Pro-Am after beating Dan Ashcroft (Pytchley) with a birdie four in the second hole of a play-off on the Old Course at Dom Pedro in the Algarve.
Despite shooting 79 in the opening round on the Laranjal course at Quinta Do Lago, Campbell moved into contention with a brilliant 68 over the Victoria layout at Dom Pedro on day two.
The winner of November’s Overstone Park Pro-Am went two strokes clear with a third round 73 over the South layout at Quinta Do Lago, but he saw his advantage wiped out by Ashcroft on the final day as the two friends finished on 298.
Although Ashcroft couldn’t match Campbell’s form in the play-off, he did claim the top prize in the team competition as he combined successfully with amateurs Harvey Morgan, Jamie Aris and Bradley Green on 546.
