NGL Hollingsworth Trophy – Group A
Priors Hall came up just short in their efforts to record a whitewash victory in their opening fixture of the 2019 Hollingsworth Trophy as they defeated Silverstone 4-1 at home in Group A.
Although Ian Abrahams and Paul Freeman (6&5) and Jerry Millar and Trevor Shiells (6&4) got the four-time champions off to a flier, they were made to battle elsewhere as all the other three ties reached the 18th hole at least.
Tommy Sheridan and Thomas Smith confirmed the home win down the last, Paul Briggs and Scott Gordon added another point on 18, but Priors couldn’t make it a perfect day as Gavin Symington and Gavin Harding lost on the second extra hole to David Goodman and Matt Bishop.
Cold Ashby also got off to a winning start the following day as they edged a tight home contest with Daventry by a single point.
The first three ties were all claimed with 4&2 wins as Kevin Basson and Spencer Daniels took the opener for the hosts, Len Newell and Jason Smith replied for Daventry, before David Hoyle and Gary Payne restored the home lead.
With the remaining two matches going the distance, Dave Mucker and Graham Reeves gave the visitors hope by winning game two, but it proved to no avail as Les Watson and Steve Bliss sealed victory for Ashby by taking the 18th hole against James Berry and Chris Poolton.
