2019 Solheim Cup
Meghan MacLaren has moved into strong contention to play in the European team for the 2019 Solheim Cup later this year after climbing from ninth to fifth in the team points list.
With the top three in the standings joined by the leading five Europeans in the World rankings, plus four Captain’s picks, the Wellingborough pro could be in line to compete alongside fellow county golfer Charley Hull, who is almost certain to play.
And MacLaren, who won on the Ladies European Tour in March before finishing runner-up in the Jordan Mixed Open last month, has already received notification that she is in the thoughts of skipper Catriona Matthew for the match at Gleneagles from September 13th-15th.
The 24-year-old said: “When I work up on the Sunday morning after the event at Jordan, I had quite a lot of messages on my phone, but one was from a number I didn’t have saved.
“It said ‘Hi Meghan, it’s Beeny (Catriona Matthew), congratulations on your result.’ So it was unexpected but also quite nice that the Solheim Cup Captain was thinking of me.
“Just the fact I got a text from her is pretty inspiring really. It’s obviously nice to know I’m on the radar and it will only make me work harder over the next few months.”
MacLaren, who also sits in second place in the 2019 LET Order of Merit, returns to action in the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco from April 25th.
