Kettering Junior Captain’s Charity Day
Kettering Junior Captain Gracie Murray’s Charity Day proved to be a huge success after the event raised £6,000 for Kettering Diabetes Support Group Trust and Junior Golf at Kettering GC.
Fifteen-year-old Murray, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and spent time in hospital earlier this year, was determined to raise money and awareness for those that helped her during the harrowing experience.
The Northamptonshire County Girls team player’s mum Suzanne admitted: “This has taken months of planning. The generosity shown from everyone involved was truly mind-blowing.
“Gracie’s diagnosis was so worrying, unexpected and completely shook our family. We all had to be educated but the amazing support of The Kettering Diabetes Support Group Trust at Kettering General Hospital has helped us get back on track.
“Her life will never be the same again but we are immensely proud of Gracie for picking herself up and never giving up on her dream of becoming a professional golfer.”
The tournament host came close to winning her own day as she combined with Andrew Needham, Daley Murray and Baylie Pyke to bag 85 points – just one less than the winning total from ladies captain Amanda Campbell, Eve Wilkins, Denise Aitchson and Hema Patel.
