Ben and Thalia relish contest with pros

Northamptonshire amateur golfers Ben Jones and Thalia Martin enjoyed the challenge of pitting their skills against the professionals on the 2020ProTour as they both recorded good finishes at Oulton Hall in Leeds.

With former Ryder Cup winner Jamie Donaldson taking part in the event, England international Jones was particularly impressive as he compiled the joint-seventh best round of two-under-par 68.

In a mixed field of 114 professionals and amateurs, the Northants County member emphasised his huge potential by posting birdies on the sixth, eighth, ninth and 13th holes to finish as the leading amateur.

Martin narrowly missed out on completing a county double as the Peterborough Milton golfer also carded four birdies in a fluctuating round of 73 to claim second spot in the women’s amateur standings.
