Coronavirus guidance for returning golfers

Golf clubs and outdoor facilities throughout Northamptonshire have been given guidance by England Golf on what they can and can’t do during the latest government coronavirus lockdown tier system.

After being prevented from playing the game over the last four weeks, golfers can return now, but under Tier 2 restrictions in this county.

With the ‘Rule of Six’ applicable outdoors, tee times have to be pre-booked for up to four players, or a total of six, including caddies/chaperones. Social distancing with those outside a household or support bubble must be followed.

Whilst on the course, the flag stick cannot be touched, there are no rakes in the bunkers, while ball cleaners and water fountains need to be removed or covered. Outdoor practice facilities are only open with appropriate distancing and sanitising in place.

There is no mixing of households indoors, but clubhouses can open for takeaways and table service, with face coverings mandatory except when seated for food and drink, including alcohol, which can only be served with a ‘substantial meal’. Last orders is 10.00pm, with closure by 11.00pm.

Locker rooms are open for storage, toilets and wash hand basins, Pro Shops can also open, but all employees and customers must wear face coverings, while Professional golfers are allowed to continue coaching as long as its outdoors.

With no travel allowed into or out of any Tier 3 areas, including Leicestershire and Warwickshire, golfers are being advised to minimise travel within the county and aren’t allowed to share transport with those outside their household or support bubble.
