MacLaren bags Ladies European Tour card for 2022
County professional Meghan MacLaren secured her playing card on the Ladies European Tour for 2022 by finishing in a tie for fourth place in the Q School Final tournament at La Manga, Spain.
The Wellingborough golfer, who narrowly missed out in qualifying for the LPGA Tour the previous week, bounced back from the disappointment with a solid performance over five days.
MacLaren carded four consecutive birdies on the front nine in an opening round of 70 on the South course, before bagging five more birdies on the North course in a three-under-par 68 on day two to move into the lead.
The 27-year-old, who has won twice on the Ladies European Tour in her career, maintained her position at the top of the leaderboard over the next couple of days as she posted scores of 73 and 69.
With the top 20 players and ties gaining full playing rights for next year, although MacLaren was unable to find her very best on the final day, a closing 76 was more than enough to reach her target.
Former Solheim Cup player Becky Brewerton, who is also attached to Wellingborough, carded rounds of 68, 67 and 70 on the last three days to grab a card on the LET for another season.
But there was disappointment for Northants County’s Lauren Taylor, who missed out by just one stroke with a closing 76, and Peterborough Milton’s Thalia Martin, who didn’t make the final day.
