Men’s Leagues
Hollingsworth Trophy
Farthingstone took a significant step towards reaching the last four of the Hollingsworth Trophy as they became the first team in Group C to win on their travels as they triumphed 4-1 at Peterborough Milton.
Alan Bosher and Ricky Brown (2&1), Darren Matthews and Karl Leason (3&2) and Adrian Miller and Bradley Wardell (4&2) confirmed the Farthingstone victory, before Ian Donald and Barry Jones another away point for on the 18th hole.
Whittlebury Park still lead the way point points difference, but will now need to win at Farthingstone in their final match this weekend to snatch a semi-final spot.
Handicap League
Farthingstone were made to pay for a heavy defeat in the fourth tie of their Handicap League Group C home fixture with Silverstone as they were beaten 8-5.
Narrow wins from Ricky Brown and Peter Butterwick (three holes), Alan Bosher and Adrian Miller (one hole) and David Carthew and Paul Dale (one hole), plus two halves, weren’t enough to turn the overall scoreline in the home side’s favour.
Local knowledge proved decisive in the latest two fixtures in Group D as Overstone Park and Collingtree Park completed whitewash victories against Cold Ashby and Oundle respectively.
Overstone rarely looked in danger of slipping up once Phil Gardner and Dale Burton (five holes) and Dan Fowkes and Jay Vieyra (seven holes) had clinched the opening two games.
The hosts added three more comfortable wins, before Jon Ball & Benn Kirkham wrapped up a 28-0 team victory by taking the final match by six holes.
Collingtree were only marginally less impressive in their 17-0 success against Oundle as Stephen Low and Wayne Harmer (five holes) and Michael Lee and Paul Curtis (five holes) earned the best wins in the middle two ties.
NGL Scratch League
Silverstone proved too strong on their own course for Daventry in their first outing of Scratch League Division 3 as they recorded a 5-1 victory to move to the top of the table.
