Australian Amateur Championship
Northamptonshire’s Michael Farr found his form in the 2019 Australian Amateur Championship as he reached the last 16 of the prestigious event in Victoria, Australia.
The 22-year-old progressed into the knockout stages after coming through strokeplay qualifying with a score of 70 on Spring Valley GC, followed by a 72 on Woodlands GC.
Farr then outplayed Jack Thompson (South Australia) 4&3 in his first KO contest, beat Andre Lautee (Victoria) 2&1 in the next round, before bowing out of the event with a narrow defeat to Michael Hirmer (Germany) in the last 16.
Northants County colleague Ben Jones also made it through qualifying before losing 4&3 to Jordan Garner (New South Wales) in the first round.
In a tournament that featured 217 entrants, Farr’s older brother Callum couldn’t quite make it a hat-trick for the county as he missed the cut by a single stroke.
