County Men
Northamptonshire’s Anglian League title defence got off to the worst possible start as the men suffered a shock 6½-5½ home defeat against Cambridgeshire at Northampton GC.
Despite selecting a strong line-up, which included England internationals Ben Jones and Robin Williams, the county drew the morning foursomes, before losing the opening three contested singles matches.
With Jones, Williams and Fergus Robinson levelling up the scores, Northamptonshire’s hopes of a comeback victory were dashed when Charlie Salter halved his game, before Luis Witherall lost the final tie.
It was a similar story for the County second team as an under-strength line-up also lost by a single point in the reverse fixture at St. Ives GC.
