Northampton became the first team to record an away victory in Group A as they showed all their battling qualities in a 5-2 success at Daventry.
Although the home side won games one and six with ease, they couldn’t get anything out of all the close matches as Margaret Worthington, Anne Goodchild, Jean Poolton, Diane Pickford and Jill Cousins collected points for Northampton.
The excellent result was put into perspective a few days later when Daventry bagged a series of convincing home wins on their way to thrashing previously-unbeaten Northants County 6-1.
