NGL Hollingsworth Trophy – Group D
Reigning champions Wellingborough had few problems in their opening outing of the year as they beat Northampton 4-1 at home.
Martin Dalton and Tim Veal set the tone with a 4&3 win, Richard Brown and Elliot Morgan doubled the home lead on the 18th hole, before Dominic Holden and Adam Sherlock (2&1) confirmed the victory.
Although Northampton pulled one back through Bradley Green and James Aris, they couldn’t prevent Wellingborough recording their fourth successive 4-1 win in this competition as Mark Davis and Jon Harris (4&3) cantered home in the last game.
Wellingborough’s next test is an away clash on Sunday with Kingsthorpe, who lost a thrilling opening match at Rushden by a single point.
Although Ricky Beasley and Lewis Miller (5&3) and Jason Benzie and Marc Benzie (2&1) recorded good wins for Rushden, the visitors were always in the contest as Elijah Woodward and Leigh Woodward triumphed on the 19th hole, before Mark Todkill and his partner levelled the match score.
With the final match going all the way to the 18th hole, local knowledge proved decisive as Chris Adams and Will White grabbed the point against Taylor Sargeant and Mark Lineham.
