Wellingborough became the first team to avoid defeat against Overstone Park in the Intermediate League this year as they secured a 4-4 draw at Kingsthorpe GC.
In a topsy turvy contest, Overstone points from James Gardner, Mengis Ghile and Cameron Reeves were matched by wins from Wellingborough’s Martin Lloyd, Paul Hughes and Mike Gilbrook, before games six and eight finished all square.
Reigning champions Collingtree Park are still searching for their first win of the season as they went down 5-3 to Northampton, who they beat in last year’s final.
Despite big wins from Joe Johnson and Trevor Twelftree, plus a couple of halves in the opening two ties, Collingtree were unable to produce the full team performance as Northampton bagged the other four points through Graham Truby, Dean Roberts, Bradley Green and Ben Lavender.
