PGA Cup
Simon Lilly’s debut appearance in the PGA Cup ended in disappointment as the Wellingborough professional lost all three matches for GB and Ireland in a 15½-10½ team defeat against the USA at Foxhills GC in Surrey.
Despite leading by one hole at the turn in the fourballs on the opening day, Lilly and partner Matt Cort lost 2&1 as USA took a three point advantage into the second day.
Alongside new fourballs partner Paul McKechnie the following morning, Lilly was defeated 5&4, before also being beaten on day three in the last singles match, by which time the visitors had already retained the Llandudno International Trophy.
In a biennial team contest between the Professional Golfers’ Associations of Great Britain and Ireland (PGA) and America (PGA of America), Lilly earned selection through his performances in the Order of Merit over the last year.
