Stockdale wins Midlands Closed Amateur Championship
Mark Stockdale (Overstone Park) held his nerve in spectacular fashion to clinch the Midlands Closed Amateur Championship by a single stroke with a two-round total of 141 at Moseley GC.
After carding six birdies in a brilliant opening round of 67 to lead by one at the half way stage, Stockdale looked set to miss out as he posted six bogeys and a double bogey in his first 16 holes of the afternoon round.
But a magnificent eagle two on the 17th hole and a par down the last sealed top spot ahead of fast-finishing county colleague Charlie Salter (Brampton Heath), who birdied the last three holes, and Rob Bardsley (Moor Hall).
