US Women’s Open
Northamptonshire’s leading two lady professionals Charley Hull and Meghan MacLaren enjoyed mixed emotions in their efforts to pick up valuable ranking points for the 2019 Solheim Cup match.
Hull, who is almost certain to make her fourth appearance in the match against the USA in September, produced her best golf of the year on the opposite of the Atlantic as she finished fourth in the LPGA Mediheal Championship in California.
The Kettering golfer is now preparing to compete in the US Women’s Open at the end of the month, but she will not be joined by her county colleague MacLaren after she missed out in 36-hole qualifying at The Buckinghamshire GC.
Teeing off alongside Solheim Cup European Captain Catriona Matthew for one of two places in the second major of the year, the Wellingborough pro struck the ball well, but couldn’t hole the putts as she finished eighth with rounds of 73 and 72.
